A haiku is a seventeen-syllable Japanese poem (now also written in English) that consists of three lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Traditionally, most haiku include a "season word,"--often the name of a plant or animal associated with one of the four seasons. These season words also have a category for human affairs, including winter sports such as skiing or ice skating. Even the phrase "Winter Olympic Games" might be considered a modern day season word.
