Japanese folk dance evolved out of the daily lives of people in the local communities. Handed down from generation to generation, these performances can be seen in many Japanese festivals and popular events. They are the prototype for Kabuki and Noh plays and strongly reflect the spirit and characteristic nature of each region. Folk dance is a valuable means to understanding Japanese culture.
