Starting in 1997, and continuing
through the Winter Olympic games of 1998, Jeremy Horland Studio developed
and programmed a Website, in English and in Japanese Language for visitors
going to Tokyo and Nagano for the "Asia-Pacific Business Forum", and for
the 1998 Olympic Winter Games.
The website was an invitation
and a survival guide for the lucky few atendees of the Forum. Atendees
and their families were given a round trip to Nagano, accomodations in
Tokyo and Nagano, tours of the cities, and special backstage views of
IBM hard at work supporting the 1998 Olympic Winter Games.
Intended to help these visitors,
and to help IBM Japan serve their needs, a 500+ page site in English and
in Japanese Language was constructed. The site contianed:
- The travelers advisor
- weather
- packing list
- hotel information
- special needs contact list
- A virtual tour of Tokyo and Nagano
- Cultural primers for Japan consisting of:
- A history of modern Japan
- An online origami lesson
- An explanation of haiku
- An Ikebana review
- A Traditional dance video
- A show-and-tell video tour of the IBM Olympic
computer support effort
- A tour, history, and explanation of the Olympic
Winter Games
- Guides to the business events of the Asia-Pacific
Business Forum
- Online Game / Quiz
- Online RSVP's
The business forum was a seminar
for executives from fortune 500 companies. At this seminar, CEO's and board
members of companies such as Ford and Smith Barney convined to learn of
the fate of the Asian business and economic market. The meeting came at
a crucial time, as the stock markets in Asia were recovering from their
recent crash.
